raw way this story kept my attention from the moment it began andeft me wanting I related to this novel than I thought I would and it made me fall in IELTS Success Formula Academic love with this story even I related to how brash and blunt Julia was and her mixed feelings about her family I related to her mental illnesses which were portrayed so well without sugar coating it The relationships she had with her friends teachers and family were so well written and natural in a way that made the characters come toife for me I also really enjoyed the fact that Julia wanted to be a writer so there are endless Alien Soldiers Baby Zoran Warriors literary references scattered in the storyline At the start of this novel Julia is a crude and judgemental girl who is angry with her family and the world sheives in But as she grows and On Beauty learns from her mistakes she gains confidence and chases her dreams andearns to speak out about her mental illnesses The growth of Julia s character is the strongest component of this story and I appreciated how much she changed and grew mature This contemporary novel was so well written with the Latinx elements thrown in There was Spanish dialogue and it wasn t italicized to the familial elements that pushed the storyline forward It was an enjoyable diverse contemporary novel and I highly recommend it to young Latinx readers because they will see themselves mirrored in this story in some way Find all of my reviews at you follow me by now you should be well aware that my reaction to Dirtgate pretty much amounted to However I am a "THE MOST ENJOYABLE PARTS TO READ "
most enjoyable parts to read when Julia went to Mexico to stay with her relatives and had it not been for those sections and the characterplot development towards the end of the book I would have found this uite a dull read Not one I would particularly recommend to others but I don t massively regret picking it up I went into this book with the How Debuggers Work Algorithms Data Structures and Architecture littlest of expectations not expecting to be as blown away as I was This is a gripping raw story about the haunting nature of grief and absence about the importance of communicating and being open and about how theoss of a ove one force you to find yourself I am shooketh I am wigless My crops have been burnt and I have no sustenance My heart is as broken as the spines of well worn paper backs Please read this book what an excellent way to start off 2018 33120 Read for my spring 2020 Growing Up class now involved in a part online classOriginal review 82918 I wasn t sure what to expect in reading this south side Chicago story a first YA novel that has been very well reviewed and half way into it was not iking the first person narrator Julia who is sarcastic arrogant volatile and sometimes downright nasty which is to say she is one kind of teenager She doesn t play well wit. is just such a great book on multiple Mapping wild gardens: The symbolic conquest of South Africa (African literatures in English) levels The portrayal of depression as I said is incredibly relatable Ioved that the author had Julia s depression manifest as anger because I think it shows how many teens acting out might do so because of hidden problems that aren t uite so obvious Meg Medina did something similar in YAUI DELGADO with the heroine retreating into herself and acting out because of the depression that bullying at school brought on I also really Gramatica de baza a limbii romane liked how the author wrote about Mexican culture and how there were parts of it Julia reallyoved and parts of it she tried to distance herself from and this becomes especially clear when Julia s parents send her to Mexico to make her feel better and Julia begins to uestion her own privilege and the way that she has misunderstood some of her parents intentions It reminded me a bit of the PATRON SAINT OF NOTHING where a character goes to the Philippines and it cements his identity by making him aware of his roots while also making him realize how much he had to Suggestive Inuiry into everything from Julia herself to the way mental health is discussed to the way Julia and her parents relate to their own culture and how their cultural identity was influenced and shaped by College University Budgeting: College And University Budgeting living in the United States as immigrants and how age and generation influenced that shaping it was all so brilliant and the ending was to being biased I speak Spanish as a secondanguage so I knew most of the words and the ones I didn t I was able to The Modern Drunkard's Adventures with Alcohol look up or guess I reallyiked it though I think it adds a Grassroots Leviathan lot of depth to the book and it soundsike the way people around me talk in real Voices and Veils life Spanish speakersiving in the US dip in and out of English "TO PERFECT BECAUSE THEY KNOW HOW "
perfect because they know how the world can be At the same for Julia s parents family comes first whereas for my own education doesIn fact it was my first time hearing of people who believe that staying with one s parents instead of going to a great college is preferable In my mind education always comes first and one should do everything in their means to finish their studies But while Mexican and my own Romanian culture clash when it comes to this particular subject I nonetheless was interested in African Native Literature: Or, Proverbs, Tales, Fables and Historical Fragments in the Kanuri or Bornu Language learning why exactly family comes before education in Mexican culture so I could understand better and refrain from judging them Unfortunately I could not connect with Julia because she is extremely confrontational She often mentions that she hates this and that and I have to admit I am not a fan of characters who complain at all times which she does By the end I enjoyed her chapters since she began to realize some things about herself and the people around her that changed the way sheooked at her The Alcohol Bible life and the world in generalI also prefer heroines who think first and actspeak second but if this is not something that irks you I am certain you will enjoy this much However even if Julia never stole my heart I could not stop reading this book I read it for the story culture and family tensions Well done Blog Youtube Twitter Instagram Google Bloglovin Everyone needs to read this book I ve never felt so connected to a character in my entireife Obnoxious and constantly confrontational would be the best words to describe Julia the main character and narrator of this novel I don t think I warmed up to her EVEN AFTER GETTING TO KNOW HER BETTER AND LEARNING after getting to know her better Hermetic Alchemy Science and Practice The Golden Dawn Alchemy Series 2 learning of the reasons for her attitude She is not an easy person toike that s it I ve known people IELTS Academic and General Task 2 How to Write at a Band 9 Level like this in real world But it s not really a criticism of the novel Julia s personality clashes with her mother s are a major part of the story This is a story about meeting your parents expectations and breaking away from the culture your parents come from One of the stronger portrayals of immigrant experience in YA with a very vivid picture ofife in Mexican community both in America and Mexico. get way complicated and much worse it s not until after things hit the nadir and she is sent to Mexico to visit family for a time that we finally see some real growth In Mexico she rediscovers her family her culture herself As much as I get sick of eating "MEXICAN FOOD EVERY SINGLE DAY OF "food every single day of ife if heaven existed I know it would smell ike fried tortillas This book deals with issues of rage depression anxiety suicide mixed raceclass relationships and is often pretty funny when Julia is being sarcastic but she is also caustic and blunt so there s a cringe factor to the humor at times I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter is not a perfect book I want to see of her actual reading and reflection rather than just reporting about books one of the central dramatic turning points that happens to Julia isn t uite prepared for enough exactly imo but it is overall very good and will be a hit among a ot of young people Olga is dead Olga the perfect daughter one who
